An account is what lets you make a character and come back to it. Set identity, class levels, ability scores, skills, feats, traits, spells, inventory, and equipment, then open the sheet whenever you play.

Why log in
Bring them to a campaign
Logged-in players join a campaign with the characters they created. Game masters run sessions, encounters, and the table from the same account.
Prep the table
Maps, tokens, and fog of war stay with your login, so the session you set up is still there next time.
Rules stay open
You can read monsters, classes, races, feats, spells, and items without an account. Creating a character is the part that needs a login.
